2018 Deaf Golf World Championships

In July 2018, Empower Golf’s head coach Lachy Foulsham joined the Australian Deaf Golf Team as Team Manager and Coach to compete in the Deaf Golf World Championships in Carton House in Ireland.

Lachy’s meticulous preparations allowed the team to focus on their golf, both as individuals and as a team. The tournament was held in difficult conditions across four rounds, underlying the consistency needed to be competitive. The men’s team of Mark Aird, Luke Ellis, Jack Besley, Jack MacLeod, Andy Honeysett, and Dean Connell were crowned the team World Champions. The women’s team of Linda Marchesi, Chantell Greaves, Debbie Byrnes, Therese Pierce and Mariellen Coles were runners up to a strong German Team. The senior team of Craig Douglas, Barry Engelsman, Robert Bowler and Robert Fogarty were fourth in their team competition.

Standout individual performances included Jack MacLeod who shot 6 over across four rounds to place 2nd overall in the men’s competition, and Jack Besley who placed 5th overall with 17 over. Linda Marchesi showed mental strength to finish 4th in her debut world championship. In the senior’s competition, Craig Douglas placed 5th in a tight contest and Barry Engelsman finished in the top ten.

Congratulations to the whole team.
